PureSkin – Privacy Policy & Terms of Service

Welcome to PureSkin. This document serves as both our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. By downloading, accessing, or using the PureSkin mobile application, you agree to be bound by these terms.

PureSkin is designed to help you understand skincare ingredients through barcode scanning and AI analysis. Please read this document carefully to understand how we handle your data and the limitations of our service.

Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

We collect information necessary to provide and improve the service, including:

• Account and profile: Firebase Authentication user ID, display name/email (when provided by your sign-in provider), skin type, age range, and skin concerns.
• Product activity: Barcodes you scan, products you view, favorites, ratings, and recent scans stored locally on your device.
• Contributions: Product photos, ingredient list photos, ingredient text, and corrections you submit.
• Diagnostics and analytics: App events, performance metrics, crash logs, and device/OS details to troubleshoot issues and improve stability.
• Advertising data (Google AdMob): Advertising ID, ad interactions (impressions and clicks), device information, and coarse location (for example, city/region) for ad delivery and measurement.
• Subscription data: Purchase status and entitlement information provided by the Apple App Store/Google Play and RevenueCat.

We do not collect: Precise location, medical records, biometric identifiers, or payment card numbers. Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used to:

• Provide ingredient analysis, product insights, and personalized content.
• Manage your account, favorites, ratings, and contribution history.
• Operate rewarded ads and subscription entitlements.
• Improve the accuracy of our product database and app experience.
• Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud or abuse.

3. Device Permissions

We request access to:

• Camera: To scan product barcodes.
• Photos/Storage: To upload product or ingredient photos for contributions.

You can manage permissions in your device settings.

4. AI & Automated Processing (xAI/Grok and Google Cloud Vision)

We use AI and OCR to analyze ingredient information:

• xAI (Grok models): Ingredient lists and product context may be processed by xAI to generate summaries and insights. This processing is governed by xAI's Privacy Policy.
• Google Cloud Vision OCR: Ingredient list photos may be processed to extract text. This processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• No PII Transmission: We do not send personally identifiable information (such as name or email) to AI or OCR providers. Only product-related content is shared.

5. Advertising (Google AdMob)

Free users may see ads served by Google AdMob, including rewarded ads for credits. AdMob may collect or receive your advertising ID, device information, coarse location, and ad interaction data to show and measure ads. You can control ad personalization through your device settings (for example, by limiting ad tracking or resetting your advertising ID).

We do not sell personal data for monetary consideration. Some jurisdictions may consider the use of ad identifiers for personalized ads a "sale" or "sharing." You can limit this through your device settings.

6. Analytics & Crash Reporting

We use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage and Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose crashes. These services may collect device identifiers, app events, and technical diagnostics as described in Firebase's Privacy Policy.

7. Data Sharing

We share data only with trusted service providers that help operate the app:

• Google Firebase: Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Analytics, Crashlytics.
• Google AdMob: Advertising delivery and measurement.
• RevenueCat: Subscription management and entitlement status.
• xAI (Grok) and Google Cloud Vision: AI analysis and OCR processing.
• Apple/Google: In-app purchase processing and subscription management.

We may also share information if required by law, to protect user safety, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition).

8. Data Storage & Security

We use Google Firebase (Firestore, Storage, and Cloud Functions) to securely store and process data. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal profile data is removed. Anonymized or aggregated contribution data (such as corrected ingredient lists and product photos) may be retained to maintain database integrity. Recent scans are stored locally on your device and can be cleared by deleting app data.

10. User Rights

Depending on your location (including GDPR for EU users), you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and personal data.
• Opt out of personalized ads via your device settings.

You can exercise these rights in the app settings or by contacting us.

11. International Transfers

Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our service providers operate. We rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

12. Children's Privacy

PureSkin is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that we have collected such data, we will take steps to delete it immediately.

Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using PureSkin, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the application.

2. Description of Service

PureSkin provides informational analysis of cosmetic and skincare ingredients. The app includes a free, ad-supported tier with limited credits and a Premium subscription that removes ads and provides expanded access. Features may change at any time without prior notice.

5. Personal Compatibility Disclaimer

Ingredient analyses and scores provided by PureSkin are generated using automated systems and general scientific references.

Individual skin reactions may vary based on personal factors such as skin type, allergies, medical conditions, genetics, lifestyle, or environmental exposure.

You are responsible for reviewing product labels, instructions, and warnings provided by the product manufacturer. Use of any product is at your own risk.

PureSkin does not guarantee that a product analyzed as "safe" or "recommended" will be suitable for every individual user.

6. No Warranties; Use at Your Own Risk

PureSkin is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any warranties of accuracy, reliability, completeness, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

You assume all risks associated with your use of the app and any products you choose to use based on the app's information.

7. Advertising, Rewards, and Brand Neutrality

Advertising: Free users may see ads served by third parties (including Google AdMob). Ads are clearly labeled and do not influence our ingredient analysis, scores, or editorial content.

Rewarded Ads: From time to time we may offer rewarded ads that grant analysis credits. Availability and reward amounts are not guaranteed and may change or be limited.

Brand Neutrality: We do not endorse advertised products or verify third-party claims. Product names and images in the app are shown for identification and informational purposes only.

8. User Responsibilities

You agree not to:

• Use the app for any illegal purpose.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
• Submit false, misleading, or malicious content (e.g., fake products or inappropriate photos).
• Abuse the credit system or attempt to bypass premium limitations.

9. Crowdsourced Contributions

By submitting photos, corrections, ingredient lists, or new product data to PureSkin:

• You grant PureSkin a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and transferable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, display, and distribute such content in any media.
• You acknowledge that approved Contributions become part of our permanent, shared product database and cannot be withdrawn or revoked once submitted.
• You represent that the content is accurate and does not violate the intellectual property rights of others.
• We reserve the right to reject, edit, or remove any contribution at our sole discretion.
• You waive any moral rights or claims of ownership over these Contributions once submitted.

10. Credits, Rewards & Premium Access

PureSkin may offer limited free analysis credits, rewarded ad credits, or Premium subscriptions.

• Credits: Free or rewarded credits have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash.
• Rewarded ads: Rewards are subject to availability and may be limited or removed. Attempting to abuse the reward system may result in suspension.
• Subscriptions: Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account. Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Management and refunds are handled via your device settings and the app store provider.

11. Third-Party Services

The app uses third-party services including Google Firebase, Google AdMob, RevenueCat, xAI (Grok), Google Cloud Vision, and Apple/Google in-app purchase systems. Your use of these services may be subject to their respective terms and policies.

We are not responsible for third-party products, services, advertisements, offers, or claims. Any interactions you have with third parties are between you and the third party.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PureSkin and its developers shall not be liable for any direct or indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including but not limited to damages for loss of profits, goodwill, data, or business interruption, or for any skin reactions, allergies, injuries, or health issues arising from the use of products analyzed by the app.

Without limiting the foregoing, we are not responsible for losses or damages arising from reliance on app content, product labeling errors, changes in product formulations, service interruptions, bugs or downtime, third-party advertisements or links, or unauthorized access to or alteration of data.

This limitation applies to claims based on warranty, contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other legal theory, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PureSkin and its developers from any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of or related to your use of the app, your contributions, or your violation of these Terms.

14. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to PureSkin at our sole discretion, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.

15. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Your continued use of the app following any changes indicates your acceptance of the new Terms.

16. Data Sources & Attribution

PureSkin utilizes data from publicly available sources to enrich our product database. Specifically:

• Open Beauty Facts: Certain product data (including barcode, brand, name, and ingredients) is sourced from Open Beauty Facts.
• License: Data from Open Beauty Facts is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL). We respect the open data community and adhere to the terms of the ODbL.
• Contributors: We acknowledge and thank the contributors of the Open Beauty Facts project for their valuable work in creating open cosmetic data.

Account Deletion

We respect your right to control your personal data. In compliance with Apple App Store and Google Play Store policies, you can request the permanent deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.

How to Delete Your Account:

• In-App: Go to your Profile page within the PureSkin app, tap on "Settings" (or the gear icon) if applicable, and select the "Delete Account" option. Follow the on-screen confirmation steps to permanently delete your account.
• By Email: If you are unable to access the app, you may submit a deletion request by emailing us at pureskin.theapp@gmail.com with the subject line "Account Deletion Request". Please include your account email or User ID to facilitate the process.

Note: Deleting your account is irreversible. Your personal profile data will be permanently removed from our servers. Recent scans are stored locally on your device and can be cleared by deleting app data. Anonymized product contributions (such as ingredient photos) may be retained to maintain database integrity.
